I hope you saw the initial blogpost reveal for Epic plans in 2019. If not, go check it out here! The thing I am personally most excited about is the new Kickstarter launch, which will have not one, not two, but three Epic products in its release! First, there will be a new big box set titled Epic Jungle: Gowana. Then, to compliment it, there is a release of 4 expansion packs called Epic: The Lost Tribe. And thirdly, we have a new Epic Duels Set, which is designed to introduce new players to the game with fewer keywords to worry about. Did you see my other blogposts that spoiled some new cards from this? Check out Part 1 and Part 2! Each of these crazy expansions have all new cards. That’s right, we are getting different cards for all of them! No repeats. Just think of the options that are opening up! I can’t wait to try a Jungle Dark Draft just with new stuff! My mind explodes when I think of the combos that will be discovered when you combine all this new stuff with the previous expansions. It’s gonna be a great time!

Now, I’m sure some of you would be content with that little tidbit of information. But I’m here for all of you, and I know there are those that want to see a new card, or maybe a new keyword. Wait, you want both? Oh alright, you twisted my arm. I’m a sucker for excitable fans. Who am I kidding, I AM the epitome of an excitable fan. Without further adieu, here is the first spoiler for the new big box Epic Jungle: Gowana!

This is a pretty simple keyword. When a card with Grudge leaves play, something happens. This represents the wrath of an angry spirit when it leaves or is vanquished. All champions with the Grudge ability are spirit champions. When these spirit champions leave, a grudge takes place. I love that theme. These powerful spirit champions come in, wreak havoc, and then when they leave, a curse is placed on the land and the people around them.

Mechanically, this ability is similar to Tribute, as you always get the effect, it just doesn’t happen right away. Grudge synergizes with any effects that remove a card from play, whether returned to hand by an Erase, broken by an Inner Demon, or Banished by Martial Law. If your opponent thinks they are getting ahead by freely bouncing this champion off the board with Vanishing, think again. They just gave you free board presence with a flood of human tokens. I love the no-cap on this card as well. You get human tokens equal to the number of cards in hand. At worst, you are getting 1 card from the Revered Spirit itself, but most likely you will have a hand of cards greater than 1, and it only gets better! You play that Erase on yourself? You are getting 3 human tokens JUST from that interaction. If she was already on the board, you can use her expend ability to draw a card, and then bounce her, for even more tokens.

I feel like this card is the Good version of Evil’s Soul Hunter. They have the same raw stats, which is nothing special, but then that’s not the point. The fun is the ability when the card leaves play. And unlike Soul Hunter, The Revered Spirit gets to trigger even when bounced. The Soul Hunter gets to enter play from the discard pile, so don’t feel too bad for him. But that’s why I love this new card. It is familiar with what came before in Soul Hunter, but with a solid thematic piece of human token generation to make it feel Good. I really like that design. This new keyword fits in so well in the game, that you hardly notice it. We’ve practically had it all along, it just didn’t have a name.

There is quite a bit to unpack in this card, Makeshift Mutation is a swiss army knife. Dealing two damage to something falls in line with Wolf’s Bite and Flame Spike.

Being able to Invoke it when you play a Wild Gold is just fantastic. Invoking it combines well with the damage of a Fire
